Pride In Business’ guide to summer

Spring handed Calgary businesses a rough hand for 2020, but with restrictions around restaurants, retail, salons and more having eased, it appears like summer might be the saving grace for many. We’ve put together our Summer Guide because now, more than ever, Calgary’s LGBTQ+ owned and allied businesses need the support of our community.

Pride In Business’ summer guide brought to you in partnership with TD.

Doodle Dogs

image-asset.jpg

While they may have played it off as enjoying our company while many of us worked from home, we can’t help but think our four-legged, furry friends deserve a treat for putting up with us for the last few months. Doodle Dogs kept Calgary pups happy and healthy with their selection of treats and toys by going online when the pandemic began but have since reopened their shops in Parkdale and Bridgeland. They’ll even help outfit your pup in some stylish accessories — from a safe distance, of course.

Nothing says summer like a poolside cocktail and, while taking a refreshing dip might still be off the table, Hotel Arts Poolside still offers the chic experience of the former. Poolside is the perfect summer oasis to enjoy a cool summer drink and poolside bites under blue skies and that famous Calgary sun. Stay tuned for when you can actually take a dip in this downtown pool.

Twisted Pride Pub

Pride In Business Guide to Summer-Twisted Pride Pub-01.jpg

While Calgary’s favourite nightclub for the gender and sexually diverse looks forward to when we can all come together to enjoy a live drag show or break it down on the dancefloor, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing happening at Twisted this summer. Operating under its new name, Twisted Pride Pub offers up a unique dining experience thanks to its partnership with a network of local food trucks. Keep an eye on their Instagram to find out what’s on special for Happy Hour and to see who’s parked for dinner.

First and foremost, Modern Apparel offers a curated collection of underwear, but also includes an array of dress accessories and stylish swimwear — perfect for summer.

Located just below Bar Patricia, one of our other featured establishments, you can escape into a venue unlike any Calgary has had before. Infinity offers a lounge experience reminiscent of a New York underground cocktail lounge, offering drag, burlesque and jazz performances. When gathering restrictions are lifted further, you won’t be surprised to find a troupe of drag queens owning the stage on any given Friday night.
