Pride In Business: This is your second time exhibiting your pieces in Pride in Art, can you tell us what you thought of your participation last year?

Maya Corona: I had an incredible experience at Pride in Art in 2023. The event was well organized, and the art display was excellently curated. I had the pleasure of meeting many amazing people at the event and have since recommended it to other artists.

PIB: Do you have a statement that is dominating in most of your work?

MC: My art celebrates life's colourful journey and the changes it brings. Each stroke captures transformation, embracing unexpected paths and their beauty.

I honour women's strength and individuality, reminding us we're unique masterpieces meant to shine. Every canvas is a sanctuary where you can discover yourself.

In my art, I find peace in letting go and embracing life's adventures. It also reflects femininity, inviting introspection and self-discovery.

Ultimately, my art celebrates authenticity, self-discovery, and the beauty of being true to yourself. It reminds me to cherish my uniqueness and enjoy life's amazing journey.

PIB: You are incredibly active in social media, something that a lot of artists forget to embrace, what do you think putting all this time in promoting your work, and showing your skills is adding into your practice?

MC: Engaging actively on social media has become integral to my artistic practice, adding immense value to my work in several ways.

Firstly, promoting my artwork on social media platforms allows me to reach a vast audience I might not have access to otherwise. It's like having a storefront where I can interact with anyone who walks through the digital door. The potential reach is unparalleled; the best part is that it's essentially free advertising.

Showcasing my skills and sharing my creative process on social media helps me connect with fellow artists, art enthusiasts, and potential clients on a personal level. It humanizes my art and fosters genuine engagement and feedback, which is invaluable for artistic growth. Being active on social media enables me to stay relevant in a fast-paced digital world. It allows me to keep my audience updated about upcoming projects, exhibitions, and other artistic endeavours, maintaining their interest and enthusiasm.

Social media is a powerful tool for expanding my artistic reach, building meaningful connections, and staying connected with my audience. It's an indispensable aspect of my practice that I embrace and leverage to its fullest potential.

MC: As the co-founder of Bear and Unicorn Company, can you tell us what is it?  How can somebody get involved? And why is important to create community for artists?

MC: The Bear & Unicorn Creative Company's mission is simple: to help humans to create and be creative. Creativity is a fundamental aspect of human existence, essential for personal growth and community enrichment. My husband and I offer personalized coaching and engaging workshops, guiding individuals in discovering and nurturing their unique creative processes. Additionally, we collaborate with businesses in various ways, harnessing the power of communication, design and art to enhance their spaces through mural installations. The community lies at the heart of everything I do.

As a co-founder of Blooming Diversity—we have crafted an immersive experience beyond traditional hikes. Our excursions into the wilderness are not just about physical exploration but also a deep dive into the senses, tranquillity, and creativity. We believe in the holistic development of individuals, and our community is built upon candid conversations that encourage personal growth and a greater connection with the world around us.

I am deeply committed to creating a supportive and inclusive art community where everyone feels like they belong.

PIB: As an ally of the Queer community, how do you think your art could inspire individuals that feel unsafe to be themselves for worrying of rejection?

MC: I have experienced some of this myself, and that’s why, with my art, every colour and stroke is a testament to the uniqueness and beauty inherent in each of us. It goes beyond human beauty, aiming to capture the essence of our individuality. We are all like vibrant brushstrokes on the canvas of life, each contributing to the rich tapestry of existence in our way.

My art serves as a mirror, reflecting each viewer's inherent worth and beauty. It's a reminder that we all deserve love and acceptance just as we are, regardless of society's standards or expectations.

Through this celebration of beauty, I aspire to inspire individuals to embrace their uniqueness and live authentically. By connecting with my art, I hope they find the courage to embrace their authentic selves and recognize that they are gorgeous in every sense of the word.

PIB: What is next for Maya in the art world?

MC: Keep going, keep creating, keep sharing, exploring and collaborating.
